”Your beliefs don’t make you a better person, your behavior does.”
Tell us about yourself along with a fun fact!
My name is Meha Kaushik and I am pursuing a Dual Degree Course of B Tech in Computer Science and MS by Research in Computer Science from International Institute Of Information Technology, Hyderabad(IIIT-H). Hyderabad is a major center of Technology and Software Industry in India. I hail from the Pink City of India, Jaipur, which is known for its royal families and a rich cultural heritage.
I am a member of the Robotics Research Center of IIIT-H. Since last one year, I am working on multi agent navigation under uncertain conditions. I am hoping to take this forward as my MS thesis project. Apart from Probability & Statistics and Optimization Methods, which are core concepts of my research area, I am very keen in learning new ventures in the field of Computer Vision, Machine Learning and Deep Learning. My first two years of Bachelors have made me fall in love with Computer Programming, which further resulted in my expertise in Algorithms and Data Structures.
A fun fact about me is I love sports, I love to dance and I am a big foodie, with a special love for “cheese” and ice creams. I love exploring new places, decorating and redecorating my home, my room, experimenting different styles, taking solo drives away from the city, spending some time alone, reading in a book shop, having a good conversation with my best friend, partying with my wingmates, going on photo walks or spending a sunday lying on bed and reading Sidney Sheldon or Khaled Hosseini or Erich Segal. I love walking in rains and I have never took a solo trip but I really want to.
What # would define your life journey?
My weekend is incomplete without a small or sometimes big get together with my friends or family. As important is work, equally important are my friends and family. To have fun in the present is equally valuable and more cherishable than worrying for future (one fact which I keep reminding to myself). With each passing day, everyone is growing older and everyone is aspiring something different from you, a year later things would not be same as they are, so why not cherish every possible moment.
Favorite website / app:
I should say the websites I use the most are Google and Facebook, but who doesn’t does that. In my free time I cannot stop myself from reading quora and whenever I am unsure about where to dine, I take help from Zomato.
Apart from app or website, I would take a moment here, to mention about a really cool tool I recently learnt. It is a robot simulator, Gazebo, by Open Source Robotics Foundation. Sometimes it is not feasible to arrange multiple similar robots and making them follow your algorithm in real time and space without any damage to the robot or the environment, Gazebo is a perfect solution in such cases.
Someone who inspires you and knowledge they have imparted:
My mother is my mentor and my inspiration. She is the reason of me being what I am. She has always backed me in my decisions and that is what matters the most. She is a Lecturer of Chemistry so that is one form of knowledge she has imparted me, throughout my school life.
Apart from my mom, my father’s saying “Try hard even if you fail, at least you tried,” is the one line that keeps me going: because of this line trying my best is the only thing that matters to me. To fail or to succeed doesn’t matter.
Song that makes you want to dance:
Whatever the surrounding or situation is, Manali Trance is a song I can dance to anytime. It is a Hindi song. Just the beats of the song are enough to get me on my feet. Apart from this, the title track of the F.R.I.E.N.D.S. TV series, “I’ll be there for you”, by The Rembrandts makes me the happiest.
Challenge you’ve faced and how you overcame it:
My first year of college life was a complete failure, low grade points, health issues and hardly any good results. It wasn’t a life challenge, it was just me not giving my best. Eventually when I did my best, I could scale myself up to the Dean’s Merit List for the next two academic years.
Another challenge is managing my MS and BTech, I am still trying to overcome it :p
For anyone who is pursuing the same degree as me, the ideal career option would be a software engineer in one of the top software companies or a researcher in any university or a researcher in industry. I too would land up in any of these, but honestly I take life as it comes. Today, I only know that for the next two years I want to do my MS. I would think of the next to next 2 years after that. I just want to give my best in what I am doing. I believe in today. 10 years before now, I wanted to become a Doctor and see, how much of a Doctor I am today !
What knowledge would you impart to women in order for them to REIGN their lives?
If you have a dream don’t let anything dim it, keep hoping and keep trying, until you succeed. Things might come to you late but never it would be,that they don’t come. Keep doing the hard work, it would pay off one day or another.
Even the failed attempt was an attempt many others didn’t make, at least you are one attempt ahead of them. So failure should never be a reason to quit something, which you have inspired of. Keep giving your best and everything would just fall into place. Believe in what you do, if you have reasons of doing something, then do it, else doing it for someone else would never bring you any good.
Secondly, take risks, don’t just do what everyone is doing, you want to try a new field, go for it, you want to move to a new place, do it. Do not wait for the future, do everything you want to, today. Tomorrow might never come. Waiting for the right time? The right time would never come, it is now which is the right time. But yes, if you have once decided something don’t quit it.
Lastly, never let work interfere your personal life, your friends and family and the memories you make are the actual source of happiness. Never lose them because of work. At least you should have the right set of people to celebrate your success with.
