Paula Abdul once said, “All you can be is the best you can be.” I heard this quote nearly 6 years ago, and it has been so deeply rooted in my mind that I will never be able to forget it. We can’t please everyone in our life. We can’t match all the things that are expected out of us. Yet, all that matters is that we are the best possible person we can be and that we know that whatever the outcome, at least we put our best effort in. This speaks to me on a daily basis and I always make sure that whatever I do is what makes me happy and I do my absolute best so that I know that I gave it my all.
Tell us about yourself along with a fun fact!
My name is Khushi Gandhi and I am currently a student at Middlesex County Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Technologies where I am currently studying civil and mechanical engineering. I will be a senior for the 2017-2018 school year. I plan to pursue financial engineering in college, combining my passion for business and engineering. I am also serving as a Teen Advisor for Girl Up, a campaign under the United Nations Foundation that works to give girls all around the world access to safety, education, and basic human rights. I have been involved with Girl Up for the past 4 years and it has changed my outlook on global issues and made me more aware of problems that women face all around the world. It has also given me the chance of immerse myself in cross-cultural experiences such as the WiSci STEAM Camp in Malawi. While exposing myself to various STEM fields, I was also able to interact with girls from varying backgrounds and cultures. At the same time, I was able to build relationships that will last a lifetime.
Fun fact: I absolutely love the show The Office.
What # would define your life journey?
Favorite website / app:
Music is an essential part of my life and has an impact on who I am as a person. So, Spotify is an app that I use on a daily base. YouTube is one of the apps/websites that I really like because of the wide variety of content that it offered. Facebook is also an app that allows me to network and connect with other people.
Challenge you’ve faced and how you overcame it:
The biggest challenge I am facing right now is choosing the right specialization that I would like to pursue for the next 4 years as I prepare to go to college. The choices available are too many but I have to choose the one that I am most passionate about as well as rewarding. With the support from those around me, this can be made possible.
For me, I would love a job that I enjoy. Something that I am passionate about and would like to spend multiple hours a week doing. As a person who always wants to learn something new, I would also want the job to be fast paced so that everyday is new. Additionally, the job should encourage teamwork so that I can get experience on working with different types of people. Of course a good salary wouldn’t hurt, but more than anything, I want to be able to grow within and contribute to the company.
What knowledge would you impart to women in order for them to REIGN their lives?
Never underestimate yourself. As women, we often limit ourselves and think that we are not capable of doing things that we dream of. But one thing is for sure- the sky is limit. If you can dream it, you can do it. And if you live by that, you will be able to make so much more of your life. I know that I still have a long way to go, but I know that all I need to do is believe in myself and anything is possible. Embrace your true potential and just go for it and not let anything make you doubt yourself for a single second.
